Hi, kiddos! I’m sorry it’s been a bit since I have seen you all, but I was away the early part of this week.
In a place with no WiFi.
In a place with no electricity.
In a place with limited showering capabilities.
In a place where I could wear holey shorts and a gross t-shirt and no one cared!!
I went camping.
I went camping with my good friends from graduate school.
I went camping and it was the best two and a half days ever.
Side note – Can someone explain why being separated from good friends for just a month seems like FOREVER? Because it seems like I hadn’t seen these ladies since the last century… insights, please!
Anyway, camping was a great experience. Except for the few weeks of sleep-away summer camp as a kid and a summer job as a counselor at a camp, camping is foreign to me. I do not have any of the cool camping gear my friends have (fold-up propane grill, anyone?). So I brought what was familiar to me… the paper goods, bagels, and my camera (it pays to know your strengths!).
And my cheerleading skills.
Go L and H! Build that fire!
(They have super impressive fire building skills – they got the fire lit in like 2 minutes.)
But the best thing about camping (besides hanging out with your friends) is the food.
I love picnic food.
And this is how RD2Bes do camping food – burgers, fresh fruit salad, cut up veggies, grilled summer squash, and potato chips. Yum, yum, yum.
And s’mores. They make my heart sing.
I would have a picture of my perfectly made s’more, but…. *burp*
I promise we did other things besides eat…
(But, check out my awesome bagel breakfast!)
… like heading to the beautiful beach that surrounded the most beautiful lake I have ever seen.
Look at that beautiful blue water. And the gorgeous green trees.
And a bunch of 20-something year olds hanging out with the coolest two year-old ever.
I got jealous so I joined in the fun.
Nothing says summer than toes in the sand.
It was a perfect mini-vacation that allowed me to not only connect with nature, but reconnect with my good friends who mean the world to me.
Happy Summer, everyone!
