The first time I had this drink was in a teeny, tiny bar with my two friends from high school.
It was our first summer after turning 21, going out to a fancy dinner in the city by us to celebrate our summer internships/jobs. After a huge dinner, we decided that we wanted to stroll around the streets surrounding the restaurant before heading home. That’s when we stumbled upon this small bar, tucked in between two larger restaurants. It was cute and packed, so we decided that we HAD to go in.
And what an amazing idea that was.
I saw that everyone around me was drinking cocktails out of mason jars and I knew that I had to have one, because I absolutely love mason jars (don’t you?). I watched as the bartender mixed sweet tea vodka, homemade lemonade (!!), and a splash of iced tea into a drink that was refreshing, delicious, and so perfectly summer.
And it has been my go-to summer drink since.
This is my take on the traditional John Daly (which I still serve up in a mason jar!).
It starts with a mason jar.
That you fill up with some ice. (seriously, though… anyone else as obsessed with mason jars as I am?)
Then add in some sweet tea vodka. Basically my favorite type of vodka ever. It’s sweet, slightly smoky, and full of tea flavor!
Pour in a bit of lemonade – homemade or store-bought!
Finally, add in a bit of iced tea. I always have a pitcher of diet iced tea in my fridge, waiting to be added to John Daly cocktails!
Look at those layers… *sigh*
Finally, add in a squeeze of fresh lemon juice – it wakes up the whole drink.
Then just garnish with a lemon slice and add a super cute straw.
(seriously, guys, these straws are my newest obsession!)
Summertime bliss in a jar!
So, everyone, what’s your favorite summer cocktail?
