Simply A (RD) Fact: Whole wheat flour contains all three parts of the wheat grain - the germ, the bran, and the endosperm! Since the germ can go bad quickly, store whole wheat flour in the freezer.
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 stick unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1½ cups dark chocolate chips - your preference
  • Sea salt, optional
  1. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Whisk to combine.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the egg and the vanilla and beat to combine.
  4. Turn the mixer to low and slowly add in the dry ingredients until just combined. Add in the dark chocolate chips and stir to combine. Pop the batter into fridge and chill for 20 minutes.
  5. While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Portion out heaping tablespoon portions of dough and place them on the baking sheets. Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool and then dig in!
