So it’s that time of year again…
Today is the first day of the Orthodox Christian Lenten season and the first day that my family and I give up meat and fish for 40 days. This time of year is as much of a challenge as it is an opportunity to be more thoughtful about what types of food I am consuming. It is not only an exercise of self-control but also an exercise in mindfulness. What am I eating and why am I eating it?
Plus, it is a wonderful time to bond with my mom – together we sit and hard-core meal plan for the week, which results in a different vegetarian delight each night (which is very unlike my first stab at vegetarianism when I ate the SAME THING for one week at a time…).
I can’t wait to see what these next 40 days bring!
