Hi there! How are you? I missed you guys!
I just came back from a really relaxing vacation in Charleston, South Carolina and it was four days filled with history tours, strolling around beautiful residential neighborhoods, and of course, FOOD. And, oh my goodness, did we eat!!
The food was absolutely amazing every single place we ate.
Starting with our brunch the first day we were in Charleston.
We were exhausted and hungry, so our concierge directed us towards a restaurant (The Rarebit) that served all day breakfast… which meant that I could get chicken and waffles. Which is probably my number one favorite Southern meal. A light buttermilk waffle is topped with piping hot fried chicken and served with sweet (sorghum) syrup to drizzle over everything. Salty + sweet + savory. Breakfast nirvana.
But that was not the only delicious thing we ate that day.
We found this absolutely delightful shop that combined ice cream sandwiches with pie (The Peace Pie). Each sandwich was made with homemade shortbread cookies and stuffed with pie filling, homemade ice cream, and toppings. This cookie dough sandwich consisted of whipped chocolate pie filling, vanilla bean ice cream, and eggless cookie dough (my inner dietitian was SO pleased… #foodsafety).
While the ice cream sandwich was amazing, we did have some amazing ice cream cones too at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream!
I got two half-scoops – one was sweet corn with black raspberries (it tasted like corn bread with raspberry jam!) and the other was sweet cream biscuits with peach jam (with literal hunks of biscuit in the ice cream). It was absolutely delicious.
But we did just eat brunch and dessert for the whole vacation! We did eat some “real” food.
Like chowing down on amazing sandwiches at the Brown Dog Deli. This is the Pig’N’Fig and it is AH-mazing. House-made pulled pork is loaded onto a piece of french bread that is slathered in fig-rosemary preserves, topped with sliced apple and crisp bacon and griddled to perfection. And that broccoli salad – that needs to be re-created in my kitchen ASAP.
And you can’t go through the day without a good biscuit!
We stopped at Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit not once…
… but twice. The second time I was much more adventurous and grabbed an original buttermilk, a black pepper + bacon, and a cinnamon biscuit. They were all so amazing and definitely gave me some blog inspiration!
It was an amazing vacation full of good times and great eats.
So, have you ever been to Charleston? Or thinking about going?
oxox,
Catherine
